So apparently, I have been living in Copenhagen for the past three weeks. This information is TRULY mind-blowing to me as I feel as though I have been living here for so much longer. I have already done so much in such little time so I am very excited about what’s to come. I have seriously been spoiled with good weather in Copenhagen since I have been here so this past rainy and gray week was a bummer. Something I have learned here, though, is that bad weather doesn’t stop ANYONE from being outside or biking here. As my core course teacher would say, there isn’t bad weather only bad clothing!
Before I get into what I have been up to this week I wanted to give a quick housing update: the residential community housing option was the perfect choice for me. I loved living in dorms during my freshman year of college and this housing option is super similar to that experience. I would definitely recommend the residential community housing option for anyone that enjoyed the “freshman dorm” experience and enjoyed being able to have all your friends right down the hall. I especially love how every Monday night everyone in my residential community partakes in our own little “hygge dinner” where certain people are assigned to cook a meal for everyone else. This really helps to create more of a community within the residential community and really helps to increase our ~hygge~.
Unfortunately, this past weekend I was feeling a little under the weather but I didn’t let that stop me. My friends and I decided to take advantage of our close proximity to Sweden and went to the city of Malmo for the day on Saturday. The tickets are super reasonable and the train ride is only 40 minutes with great views so how could I pass this up (even if I didn’t have a voice due to my cold)?! The day was spent looking at old castles, windmills, and walking around this gorgeous park within the city. We were even able to find this adorable outdoor restaurant where we grabbed delicious warm cider and hung out by the fires they had set up. The restaurant had BIG hygge vibes which is honestly all you can ask for.
Yesterday, my friend and I decided to venture out before our field studies to try and get some “Wednesday snails.” Now I know, “Wednesday snails” sounds interesting to say the least. When I first heard the term, I thought that it was a thing for people here to get snails in the form of escargot for some reason every Wednesday and I honestly was very skeptical. I later did more research and “Wednesday snails” are actually essentially cinnamon rolls so SIGN ME UP. It seems I should have done more research because it turns out these “Wednesday snails” are only a thing at this one bakery which my friend and I were not aware of, oops. The bakery is called Sankt Peders Bageri and is Copenhagen’s oldest bakery. We ended up just getting knockoff “Wednesday snails” after walking around downtown aimlessly for an hour. Hopefully, next Wednesday we will be able to get ourselves authentic “Wednesday snails.”

Today was also a pretty good day as I was able to check out the CIFF or the Copenhagen International Fashion Fair. The fair was SO cool and I don’t think I have ever been around more clothes. I was overwhelmed in the best way possible. I didn’t want to leave but when the time came that I actually HAD to go I seriously couldn’t find the exit that’s how BIG this fair was.
Next week marks the beginning of core course week which I am SO excited for and can’t wait to blog about so stay tuned for that!
