Settling In…

Tomorrow marks one week since I began my journey to Copenhagen. The fact that I’ve only been here for less than a week is mind-blowing to me as I feel like I have already been here for so much longer. These past couple days have been some of the busiest days but I wouldn’t change any of it. Bear with me as I try and recap what my life has been like since arriving in Copenhagen.

After arriving at my residential community in Christianhavn on Saturday night, I was taken on a neighborhood tour with the other DIS students in my housing. The tour was incredibly helpful in order to orient myself in my new neighborhood as it pointed out the nearest grocery stores, drug stores, and cafes. Once we got back from the tour, my residential community was treated to pizza which REALLY hit the spot after traveling for 12 hours.

The next few days before classes started were really great because while DIS provided a wide variety of helpful arrival workshops, I also had free time that allowed me to explore my neighborhood more and also downtown Copenhagen. In this free time, I was able to wander the cobblestone streets of downtown Copenhagen, unpack, meet people in my residential community, visit the Round Tower (which has GREAT views of Copenhagen at the top), find the “Flying Tiger” store (which I totally recommend because it has great deals and adorable knick-knack type items) and also try out the nightlife in Copenhagen.

Spotted while roaming the streets of Copenhagen at night: a wild flying tiger!

Yesterday, I had a two-hour introduction to my Core Course class: Sustainable Development in Northern Europe. Meeting the whole class and the professor was really helpful because it was able to give me a taste of what to expect from the course and how Danish teaching is going to differ from American teaching. Today was the official first day of classes and I started bright and early at 8:30 am. While waking up was rough, my classes made it worth it.

If the first (almost) week went so well, I cannot wait for what the rest of the semester has in store for me. Stay tuned!
