Thoughts on What Comes Next…

I leave for my semester abroad in Copenhagen in t-minus 4 days! I cannot even begin to comprehend how fast this break went and how close I am to being in Copenhagen. It truly feels like I have been waiting for this day to come for so long and the fact that it is really happening is insane.

I have pretty much pulled out or bought everything I need for my semester abroad which is a REALLY good thing as I leave so soon. Packing is never fun but it is especially challenging when you are packing for a whole semester in a different continent AND when you decide to procrastinate packing by attempting to teach yourself Danish using Duolingo (guilty). DIS made packing MUCH easier for me, though, as they provide basic kitchenware and bedding (among other things) which otherwise would have taken up a lot of space that I cannot afford because of clothes (oops). If anyone has any packing tips on sneaking their dog in their suitcase that would be really appreciated! Asking for a friend…

ALSO, I got my housing assignment. I will be living in a residential community in the Christianshavn district of Copenhagen and I could not be more excited. The residential community is exactly what I wanted as it will enable me to create a support system of other DIS students while studying and exploring a new city. I am so excited to be able to explore my new neighborhood with fellow DIS students!

On top of getting my housing assignment, I also received my visiting host family assignment. The visiting host family program is an amazing opportunity offered by DIS that allows DIS students who are not staying with a host family to still be able to connect with local families. I am so excited to meet my family and really immerse myself in authentic Danish culture while also sharing with them what my life back home in the states is like.

While I am buzzing with excitement for what awaits me in Copenhagen, my nerves are definitely kicking in. My upcoming semester in Copenhagen will be a very daunting experience, but I could not be more ready to take on whatever challenges are thrown my way and welcome the chance for me to step out of my comfort zone.
